Getting to Sunrise on Falie

Sunrise on Falie is located in a township called American River, located on Kangaroo Island - a pristine island just off of the coast of South Australia, famous for its unspoilt natural scenery, fine food, dining, wildlife and adventures.

There are 2 common ways to come to K.I.

Ferry

Sealink operate South Australia's ferry service between the mainland, leaving from Cape Jervis, across to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.

Many ferries leave throughout the day, carrying passengers and cars. It takes about 15 minutes for a ferry to be loaded and then again unloaded the other side. The crossing itself takes about 45 mintues, depending on the weather.

SeaLink passenger boarding ramps have wheelchair access and there is also a restroom onboard each ferry which allows wheelchair access.  Should you require a wheelchair an electric one is available  upon request when booking.

Their site allows you to book passenger and vehicle trips either online or by phone (Australian number 131301).   Ask us about our Family and Friends discount.  We suggest a morning ferry to arrive as there is so much to see near the Ferry arrival point that you will want to take your time heading to us.

Once arriving on Kangaroo Island at Penneshaw, it takes first time visitors about 30 minutes to drive around to American River to locate Sunrise on Falie. This is not a crowded Island and for some International Visitors its a bit surprising to have the roads so free of traffic.   Take your time. Along the way, why not stop off at Pennington Bay (5 minutes off main road) for your first look at the Southern Ocean in whatever mood it has in mind at that very moment.  Its well signposted. 

KIC  Kangaroo Island Connect Ferry and Car Hire  Koala Car Rentals provide cars and services to Kangaroo Island Connect. Tips to make your ferry crossing easy and comfortable.

Always arrive early.  To get to Cape Jervis allow an extra 30 minutes on the Southern Express.  There are often roadworks, you can get stuck behind a truck when there is no overtaking lane or other hold ups.  When driving your car on the crew will guide you, or if you are not comfortable will drive it on for you.   Once parked you must not remain in the car.  Put the handbrake on, leave it in park and head upstairs to the passenger area or up a level if you have a pet with you.  Switch off car alarm as the motion can set it off.

Seasickness tip, never sit in the front of the board.  Don't get overheated.  Take layers off.  Best place is down the back or up on deck in the fresh air.  Sick bags are provided.  It's just a 45 minute trip so relax have a cup of tea or coffee but no milk shakes or heavy food if you are not feeling yourself. Aircraft

Recently upgraded Kangaroo Island's Airport is located about 10 minutes drive out of Kingscote, KI's main town or 15 minutes to Sunrise on Falie.

Car hire is available at the airport for your convenience.

It takes about 15 minutes of relaxed driving from the Airport to American River / Sunrise on Falie.

South Australia's regional airline REX is the main service between Adelaide International Airport and Kangaroo Island. There are new interstate services with Qantas.
